Like many things in life, gaining 1st page discoverability for searches relating to the offerings of your business can be tricky, and involve approaches rooted in both art and science. On the ‘Science’ side, we tend to focus on keyword placement within the structure of the website, along with subsequent posts and pages within. Title tags, heading tags, body text…all important to your discovery by search engines like Google. Optimize rankings search engine keywords focus…wow, I’m not sure I can go on. That was as difficult to write as it most likely is to read! What my silly little exercise does highlight for us is that our ultimate goal is not to just see boosted rankings, but to become a valued destination and resource for search engine users. Become a site that our target audience will be inclined to visit again and again, hungry for whatever information we’re providing. For a laundromat this could be hourly updates on available machines…for a hair salon this could be weekly updates on current specials. Whatever the business, strive to become a valuable source of current and up-to-date information…which cannot be done without the ‘art’ side of things. More to come on that soon…
